Glycine Watches

Airman Watch, Pilot/Aviator & Combat Military Watch
Glycine Watches Established in Bienne, Swiss in 1914. Glycine became a noteworthy watch maker in the early 1950s for the introduction of their Airman model, a 24 hour watch favored by both military and commercial pilots. The Airman was worn by many U.S. Air Force pilots during the Vietnam War. Glycine still makes several variants of the Airman. Other models in the Glycine line include the Incursore, Combat, and Lagunare series.
Since its founding by Eugène Meylan in 1914, Glycine has been producing watches at its factory in Bienne, Switzerland.

Meylan was an uncompromising watch engineer who strove for perfection and nothing less. He had a profound understanding of both the market demands and the possibilities offered by the technological advances of the time. Very soon, he succeeded in producing extremely precise, small movements for ladies watches, enabling Glycine to put on the market the finest miniature movements, clad in precious gold and platinum cases, often studded with diamonds.

Glycine became a supplier to the wealthy people who valued highly these works of fine craftsmanship. However, Meylan did not stop there. Around 1931, he presented to the world market a well-functioning self-winding watch, entirely of his own invention, a sensational performance that, for lack of capital, could not be exploited commercially. Some of these GLYCINE Eugène Meylan SA self-winding watches can still be found in the collectors' market.
Airman model
in 1953, Glycine started production of its first Airman model, a watch that has become legendary. The design and features of this watch had been worked out in close co-operation with pilots of civil and military aviation..

Mechanical watches

Beginning in the late 90s and in quick succession, a rich assortment of mechanical watches, with steadily growing diameters, was presented to the market, from the 37 mm COMBAT to the 42 mm OBSERVER, the 44 and 46 mm INCURSORE, the 48 mm KMU and, to top it off, the 52 mm F 104, one of the biggest wrist watches ever produced.

Chronographs with the famous V 7750 and 7751 movements were added, such as the classic 46 mm STRATOFORTE, the giant GRAND CARRE 3810 and the elegant barrel-shaped ALTUS, inspired by a successful Glycine model of the 50s.
All these big size watches gave the company the status of a daring innovator that did not hesitate to push the size of its watches beyond every dimension known so far.

The watch proved to be a market success and laid the basis for the watch manufacture.
In the mid-90s, rubber became the focus of interest for watchmaking brands. Hublot remains one of the last independent family-run watchmaking businesses with a unique mono-product concept.

In less than a year, Jean-Claude Biver

Grovana Watch

Watches for men and women
Grovana was founded in 1924, factory is located in Tenniken which is in the north-western part of Switzerland – close to Basel. The company is privately owned and thus independent. Grovana is in the hands of the Bitterli family since over 30 years, With Total staff is 40 persons of which 25 are working in the production facilities and 15 in the administration.

Grovana of Switzerland – History
Grovana is a firm that has made a name for itself in the Swiss watch making industry through innovation and flexibility. Up to the 1970s it made mechanical watches that were always state of the art.
For decades the Swiss watch industry has been renowned all over the world for the quality and accuracy of its products. Grovana began to move into new markets as early as the 1970s. This led to a collection being presented that met the requirements of the different markets and made the Grovana brand name successful. Thanks to this flexibility Grovana weathered the crises in the Swiss watch industry very well, a time when many companies were forced out of business. Grovana was one of the first Swiss watch manufacturers to start making analog quartz watches. This technological know-how enabled Grovana to open up new markets.

As early as 1982 80 % of Grovana's output consisted of analog quartz watches. Grovana has carefully targeted the further expansion called for new investments. Appropriate measures had to be taken in the form of constant increases in production to satisfy the demand for Grovana watches on the world market. That is why the manufacturing and administrative divisions in Tenniken were extended in 1986. Work is currently in progress on a further capacity increase. In recent years Grovana has achieved annual sales increases of between 5% and 15%. This is attributable to two factors: firstly, the further extension of existing markets and, secondly, the political changes in Central and Eastern Europe. Grovana has been able to open up significant new markets in the Baltic States, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania. Today Grovana exports to more than 80 countries and presents its collection every year at numerous European and overseas trade fairs.

A new building wing came into service in January 2000. The work preparation process can be optimised as a result of the extension. The entire components warehouse was brought together in this new building and at the same time new forwarding unit was put into operation. This means all work process connected with watch manufacture are now more optimally organized.
Special attention was also paid to the repair service. New, clearly laid out warehouse facilities make it possible to quickly assemble spare parts for our agents. This means Grovana can continue to guarantee that our spare parts can be despatched to the agents within 48 hours.
New production facility was taken into operation to be used exclusively for the production of REVUE THOMMEN manufacture movements.

Revue Thommen Watch

Aviation Watch, chronograph, Automatic and Quartz
Revue Thommen is a Swiss watch and aviation instrumentation manufacturer, originally established 1853 as Waldenburg clock and watch making company. REVUE THOMMEN watch trademark is now operated by Grovana Watch Co since 2001 under licence of the REVUE THOMMEN AG (LTD).
The firm, Revue Thommen, was founded in 1853 by Gedeon Thommen and it developed into one of the leading companies in this sector.
In the early days, only wristwatches and pocket watches were produced. They relied exclusively on their own movements, as was only fitting. Around 1920, Revue Thommen also decided to start producing instruments for the aviation industry. This segment was constantly expanded, and today, Revue Thommen’s instruments are among the leading products in the aviation industry.
Small watches (wristwatches) were produced in La Chaux-de-Fonds for many years. The Revue Thommen Cricket* products (mechanical alarm clocks) became world famous. Many presidents of the United States were proud wearers of the Revue Thommen Cricket watch.
The firm, Grovana Watch Co. Ltd., took over production and global sales of Revue Thommen watches in spring 2001. The firm, Grovana, is one of the leading companies in the Swiss watchmaking industry. Sales of Grovana products have expanded strongly in recent years. Today, its watches are sold through more than 60 country agents around the world. Great attention has always been paid to quality, but if a repair is ever necessary, our spare parts service comes into its own. Any part, ordered by our agents, will be dispatched within 48 hours.
When Revue Thommen watches were integrated into Grovana Watch Co. Ltd., it was decided that two main divisions should be further developed: the Airspeed aviation chronometers and the traditional watch division with exclusive Revue Thommen Manufacture movements.
The Airspeed lines, which comprise “The Classics” and “The XLarge Collection”, will shortly be supplemented by the jubilee collection called “The Flyback Collection”. The Airspeed line reflects the technical accuracy and perfection of Revue Thommen’s aviation tradition.
The traditional collection is devoted to the original watchmaking art. Thus Revue Thommen has decided to resume production of the tried-and-tested, exclusive Revue Thommen Manufacture movements.

Rolex - Watches

Rolex For Men,Water resistant, Automatic movements : deep-sea diving Watch, mountain climbing Watch and aviation Watch.
Rolex SA is a Swiss manufacturer of high quality, luxury wristwatches. In 1905 Hans Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law Alfred Davis founded "Wilsdorf and Davis" in London. Their main business at the time was importing Hermann Aegler's Swiss movements to England and placing them in quality watch cases made by Dennison and others. These early wristwatches were sold to jewellers, who then put their own names on the dial. The earliest watches from Wilsdorf and Davis were usually hallmarked "W&D" inside the caseback.

In 1908 Wilsdorf registered the trademark "Rolex" and opened an office in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The company name "Rolex" was registered on 15 November 1915. The word was made up, but its origin is obscure. Wilsdorf was said to want his watch brand's name to be easily pronounceable in any language. He also thought that the name "Rolex" was onomatopoeic, sounding like a watch being wound. It was also short enough to fit on the face of a watch. One story, never confirmed by Wilsdorf, is that the name came from the French phrase horlogerie exquise, meaning "exquisite clockwork". The book The Best of Time: Rolex Wristwatches: An Unauthorized History by Jeffrey P. Hess and James Dowling says that the name was just made up.

the Among the Rolex 's innovations are
# The first wristwatch with an automatically changing date on the dial (Rolex Datejust, 1945)
# The first wristwatch with an automatically changing day and date on the dial (Rolex Day-Date)
# The first wristwatch case waterproof to 100 m (330 ft) (Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner, 1953)
# The first wristwatch to show two time zones at once (Rolex GMT Master, 1954)
# The first watchmaker to earn chronometer certification for a wristwatch

Rolex Collections
Rolex Watch produced specific models suitable for the extremes of deep-sea diving, mountain climbing and aviation. Early sports models included the Rolex Submariner and the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Sea Dweller. The latter watch has a helium release valve, co-invented with Swiss watchmaker Doxa, to release helium gas build-up during decompression. The Explorer and Explorer II were developed specifically for explorers who would navigate rough terrain, such as the world famous Mount Everest expeditions. The most iconic model is the Rolex GMT Master, which was originally developed in 1954 at the request of Pan-Am Airways to assist its pilots with the problem of crossing multiple time-zones when on transcontinental flights (GMT standing for Greenwich Mean Time). In 2005 this classic watch was updated and re-issued as the Rolex GMT Master II "50th anniversary edition

Rolex Automatic movements
The first self-winding Rolex wristwatch was offered to the public in 1931, preceded to the market by Harwood which patented the design in 1923 and produced the first self-winding watch in 1928, powered by an internal mechanism that used the movement of the wearer's arm. This not only made watch-winding unnecessary, but eliminated the problem of over-winding a watch and harming its mechanism.
Rolex Quartz movements
Rolex participated in the development of the original quartz watch movements. Although Rolex has made very few quartz models for its Oyster line, the company's engineers were instrumental in design and implementation of the technology during the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 1968, Rolex collaborated with a consortium of 16 Swiss watch manufacturers to develop the Beta 21 quartz movement used in their Rolex Quartz Date 5100. Within about five years of research, design, and development, Rolex created the "clean-slate" 5035/5055 movement that would eventually power the Rolex Oysterquartz.
Rolex Water resistant cases
Rolex was also the first watch company to create a wristwatch water resistant to 100 m (330 ft).[ Wilsdorf even had a specially made Rolex watch attached to the side of the Trieste bathyscaphe, which went to the bottom of the Mariana Trench. The watch survived and tested as having kept perfect time during its descent and ascent. This was confirmed by a telegram sent to Rolex the following day saying "Am happy to confirm that even at 11,000 metres your watch is as precise as on the surface. Best regards, Jacques Piccard".
Certified chronometers
Rolex is the largest manufacturer of Swiss made certified chronometers. In 2005 more than half the annual production of COSC certified watches were Rolexes. To date, Rolex still holds the record for the most certified chronometer movements in the category of wristwatches.
